A CNC dust setup has to fit the exact machine, router or spindle, hose and cutting workflow. Capture dust near the cut instead of relying on room cleanup
For woodworking dust, OSHA identifies local exhaust ventilation as the primary control method and says exhaust hoods should be located as close as possible to the emission source. CNC routers naturally create the collection challenge at the cutter, which is why a shoe or boot around the cutting zone is so common.
A dust shoe still has to preserve tool access and machine motion. A shoe that sits too low can interfere with clamps, tall workpieces or side milling. A shoe that rides on the spindle can change effective clearance as Z moves. A Z-independent shoe can keep a more constant relationship to the stock but adds its own machine-specific mounting geometry. None of those designs is universally superior.
Hose size is an interface specification, not a universal CNC standard

That means a dust shoe, hose and collector can all be individually reasonable yet still need adapters—or fail to fit cleanly as a system. Check port dimensions before buying, keep the hose flexible enough to move across the entire work area and support it so its weight does not pull on the Z carriage.
Shop vacuum vs dust collector depends on the scale of the CNC workflow
There is no single collector class that suits every machine. Sienci's current LongMill planning guidance gives a shop vacuum plus Dust Deputy-style separator as an example that can be capable for hobby CNC dust collection. That is a manufacturer workflow example, not a universal airflow specification for every CNC router.
Larger-format routing, continuous MDF work, heavier chip loads or production use can justify a different collector/duct strategy. Avoid translating one manufacturer's small-machine example into a safety claim for a larger shop. For workplace environments, use the applicable occupational-safety requirements and qualified ventilation guidance rather than a generic ecommerce sizing rule.
Dust collection changes the total machine footprint
The CNC frame is only part of the shop-space requirement. The collector, separator, hose loop, hose support, filter access and bin-emptying path all need room. On a desktop machine the extra footprint may be modest; on a 4×8 router, a hose that must traverse more than eight feet can change overhead support and service access substantially.
